Recycling and Waste in Basildon: Tips, Centres and Bin Days

Managing household waste and recycling in Basildon involves two organisations: Basildon Borough Council, which runs kerbside bin collections, and Essex County Council, which runs the household waste recycling centres.
Pitsea Recycling Centre
The main recycling centre for the area is the Pitsea Recycling Centre, on Pitsea Hall Lane, Pitsea, SS16 4UH. According to Essex County Council and Love Essex, its opening hours are:
- Summer (1 March – 15 October): 9am to 5pm daily
- Winter (16 October – 28 February): 9am to 4pm daily
The centre accepts household waste and limited amounts of DIY and construction waste from your own home, and has a reuse shop on site.
Booking is required
Booking is mandatory for all cars and vans visiting the recycling centre. Blue Badge holders, pedestrians and cyclists do not need to book. If you cannot book online, you can call Essex County Council on 0345 743 0430, from 8.30am to 5pm.
Bin collections
Kerbside bin and recycling collections are run by Basildon Borough Council. You can check your collection day, report a missed bin and find out what goes in which container on the council's website.
Recycling banks
Basildon Borough Council also lists local recycling banks for glass, textiles and other materials across the borough.
