Pitsea

Pitsea is a district in the south-east of Basildon, on the edge of the marshes bordering the Thames estuary. Historically a village in its own right, it was absorbed into the Basildon New Town in the 1950s and 60s. Pitsea is best known for Pitsea Market, a large open-air market that is one of the biggest in Essex, and for the retail area around Northlands Pavement.

The district is home to Wat Tyler Country Park on Pitsea Hall Lane — 125 acres of open countryside, walking trails, wildlife habitats and the site of the RSPB South Essex Marshes. Pitsea railway station, on the c2c Southend line, connects the area directly to London Fenchurch Street and to Southend.

Pitsea has its own shopping and services centred on the High Road and the market, and remains a distinct community within the wider Basildon borough.
